Tom is an experienced technologist, entrepreneur, and general manager. Prior to joining Woodside, he was an investor and advisor to startup technology companies for two years, working closely with entrepreneurs on technology assessment, market positioning, and recruiting.

In 1995, Tom co-founded NetGravity which became the leading provider of application software for Internet advertising. As VP of Engineering, then CTO, Tom was responsible for NetGravity's development team and architecture, producing mission-critical real-time enterprise software that was successfully deployed at over 300 customer network operations centers. NetGravity went public in 1998, and was then acquired by rival DoubleClick. During this period, Tom chaired Internet advertising industry standards committees and authored several technical standards.

Prior to NetGravity, Tom was a development manager at Oracle for four years, and was a member of two technology startups. He received a BA in Computer Science with honors from Harvard College. Tom performs with a cappella groups around the San Francisco Bay Area, and enjoys hiking, kayaking, sailing, and diving.

Tom Shields is currently CEO of a Woodside Fund-backed company, Yieldex.
