Woodside Fund
Portfolio Companies – Aristos Logic and SS8 Networks –
Included in Red Herring Top 100 List
Vincent M. Occhipinti from Woodside Fund Participates in Red Herring's 'Venture Capital Upswing' Panel During Spring 2005 Event
May 11, 2005, Redwood Shores, CA: Woodside Fund,
an early-stage venture capital firm, today announced that two of
the firm’s portfolio companies – Aristos Logic Corp.,
a RAID Storage Processor (RSP)™ technology provider, and SS8
Networks, Inc., a provider of mission-critical signaling solutions
and service applications that provide continuity between traditional
and next-generation communication networks – were included
in the Red Herring Top 100 Private Companies List. The
Red Herring award recognizes the top 100 private companies
in North American that help drive the future of technology, and
all award winners will have the opportunity to present to an audience
of over 300 CEOs, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, and senior
executives from large public firms at the Red Herring Spring
Event that will take place May 17th – 19th in Monterey, California.
Woodside Fund Co-founder and Managing Director Vincent M. Occhipinti
will participate in the Red Herring Spring 2005 event as
a panelist, on the only venture capital-specific session titled
‘Venture Capital Upswing.’ The panel will be moderated
by Alex Vieux, publisher of the Red Herring, and other
panelists include George Zachary from Charles River Ventures, Tom
McKinley from Partech International, and Mitchell Kertzman from
Hummer Winblad.
“Five years after the dot-com bubble burst, innovation and
entrepreneurship are thriving. The companies on this list are proof,”
said Red Herring editor-in-chief Joel Dreyfuss.
“Three of our portfolio companies – Aristos Logic,
Azaire Networks, and SS8 – were nominated as finalists in
Red Herring’s preliminary list of top 200 private
companies,” said Vincent M. Occhipinti, of Woodside Fund.
“To have both Aristos Logic and SS8 make Red Herring’s
top 100 list is proof that Woodside Fund has been able to discover
new and innovative technology and attract top entrepreneurs since
our inception in the early 80’s – a task similar to
Red Herring’s editorial mission.”
“We are honored to be among this select group of companies
recognized by Red Herring for our innovation, technological
contributions and business strategy,” said Anil Gupta, President
and CEO of Aristos Logic. “Being chosen as one of the top
100 private companies is a tremendous endorsement of our company,
our outstanding team, our RSP technology and the impact we have
made on the enterprise storage market.”
“SS8 Networks is honored to have its achievements and role
in the telecommunications industry recognized by this prestigious
award,” states Dennis Haar, President and CEO. “Our
standing as the leader in converged communications is due in part
to great products like our lawful intercept solutions and the ServiceController
3100 messaging platform. But the true innovation, the engine that
drives our consistent growth quarter after quarter, is our people
– the men and women of SS8 Networks.”
Since 1997, Red Herring editors have selected a group
of private companies that are emerging as the brightest stars in
the business universe. Red Herring's editorial staff rigorously
evaluated more than 900 private companies through a careful analysis
of financial data and subjective criteria, including quality of
management, execution of strategy, and dedication to research and
development. Companies like Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) and eBay (Nasdaq:
EBAY) were spotted in their early days by Red Herring editors
as those that would change the way we live and work.
