Kauffman Fellow, Dr. Ashish Gupta,
Joins Woodside Fund
Redwood Shores, CA -- July 22, 2002 -- Woodside Fund announced
today that Kauffman Fellow, Dr. Ashish Gupta, has joined the firm.
The Kauffman Fellowship is a unique and highly esteemed educational
program designed to educate and train future venture capitalists
and leaders of high-growth companies. The program selects leaders
of the venture capital community to mentor Kauffman fellows. By
working hand-in-hand with their venture capital mentors, the Fellows
learn how to identify, finance and grow new venture companies.
Woodside Fund is one of nine venture capital firms selected to
mentor a Fellow from the current class. Woodside Fund is an
excellent venue for our program, stated Trish Costello, Director
of the Kauffman Fellowship. Woodside Fund stands out for its
long term commitment to early stage investing, and its decades of
experience, which is very valuable in todays challenging environment,
Ms. Costello added.
Vincent Occhipinti, Co-founder and Managing Director of Woodside
Fund remarked, We are pleased and honored to serve as mentor
to Ashish. He is an exceptionally talented and accomplished entrepreneur,
business leader, and fine person. His background, as an entrepreneur
and technologist, is highly compatible with Woodside Funds
culture and investment focus on enterprise software and network
infrastructure.
Ashish Gupta stated, I am looking forward to working closely
with Woodside Fund. The Fund applies a disciplined approach to investing
coupled with a commitment to helping entrepreneurs succeed through
the application of high ethical standards. These are some of the
many attributes that attracted me to the Woodside team, and I am
privileged to be with Woodside Fund.
Most recently, Ashish was an active advisor and investor in several
information technology companies including Tavant and Daksh, working
with the founders and management on all aspects of their businesses.
Ashish was Founder, Vice President of Engineering, and Director
of Junglee Corporation, a data integration software company that
was acquired by Amazon.com in 1998. Before Junglee, Ashish was Senior
Member of Technical Staff at Oracle Corporation, and also held technical
research positions at IBM and Stanford University. He is the holder
of seven patents and has written and presented numerous papers at
international conferences. Ashish has a Ph.D. in computer science
from Stanford University and a B.A. in computer science from the
Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur, where he was awarded the
President's Gold Medal.
Participation in the Kauffman Fellowship program is highly sought
after by prospective Fellows and mentors. Only candidates with impeccable
credentials are accepted into the program. This year, 450 applied
and only nine Fellowships were awarded. Fellows are carefully matched
with a venture capital firm to ensure that each Fellow has the ideal
educational experience to move them up the learning curve as quickly
as possible.
